A short trip from the borough
You will find us at 624 Main Road, Suite 2B, Towaco. From Pompton Lakes, the Paterson-Hamburg and Newark-Pompton Turnpikes and then Jacksonville Road bring you here in roughly fifteen minutes without traffic. With sessions of around thirty minutes, the whole visit fits comfortably into a morning.
Three questions before the first injection
Are they only cosmetic? Often, yes. Spider veins are vessels less than a millimetre wide that have widened enough to show, lying flat in the skin. They are very common in women and strongly inherited, and pregnancy, hormonal change and long hours on your feet all add to them. If yours are a cosmetic matter, Dr. Donna D’Alessio says so, and they are treated — and priced — as one.
Is something feeding them? Sometimes a vein higher in the leg has failing valves and is pushing pressure down into the small vessels. Clusters crowded around the ankle or inner calf, a leg that aches or feels heavy, veins that came back after earlier treatment and a family history of varicose veins all point that way. In that case the leg is checked with a duplex ultrasound first, because tiny veins injected over an open source would only fill again from below.
How many sessions? It comes down to how many veins there are and how each one responds. Plenty of people see a clear difference after one or two; wide clusters take more. You get an estimate once your legs have been examined, not beforehand.
What sclerotherapy does to the vein
A very fine needle places a little sclerosant solution inside each vessel. The lining reacts, the walls seal together, and over the following weeks the body clears the closed vein while blood takes the healthy routes nearby. You lie down for it. There is no anaesthetic, no cut and no stitch, and each injection brings a sting or a warm cramp that is gone within seconds. More on sclerotherapy.
The month after
- Compression stockings go on before you leave, and walking is encouraged.
- For about two days, no hot baths, saunas or sun on the treated skin; strenuous exercise waits a few days.
- The veins usually turn darker and bruised-looking for two to four weeks while they close, then fade over roughly four to eight.
Pompton Lakes patients ask
Do I have to take the day off? No. You walk out and carry on with your day, work included.
Why keep sun off the area? Sun on a vein that is still healing can leave a brown mark that lasts longer than the vein did.
Will insurance pay? For spider veins treated for appearance alone, usually not. If the scan finds a refluxing vein behind them, treating that vein is a separate medical question that plans often cover, and we tell you which applies before you commit — see insurance and fees.

Tell us what’s going on
A consultation is a conversation and an examination, not a sales appointment. Dr. D’Alessio will tell you what she thinks is causing it, what can be done about it, and — when that is the honest answer — that you do not need a procedure.
