Built around a working week
A sclerotherapy session takes about half an hour, and nothing about it stops you working afterwards, so the planning is mostly a matter of the calendar. The office at 624 Main Road, Suite 2B, Towaco keeps hours on six days: 9 am to 5 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 am to 7 pm on Tuesdays, 9 am to 4 pm on Fridays and 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. Ask when you book which of those times suit a treatment session. From Pompton Lakes, the Turnpikes and Jacksonville Road make it a drive of close to fifteen minutes without traffic.
Before the day
- Your history. It is reviewed first, including any blood clot you have had and the medicines you take now.
- A look, and sometimes a scan. For straightforward spider veins the examination is the assessment. If the veins cluster at the ankle, came back after earlier treatment, or arrive with heavy, aching legs, a duplex ultrasound comes first, since a leaking vein left open would refill whatever is injected.
- The cost settled. Spider veins treated for looks alone are usually not covered by insurance; a refluxing vein found underneath is a separate, medical matter. You are told which applies before you commit to anything.
On the day
You lie on the treatment table, the skin is cleaned, and the veins are injected one after another through a very fine needle. Each one stings or cramps warmly for a few seconds. No anaesthetic is used, and none is needed. Compression stockings are fitted before you get up, and then you walk out.
The week after
Expect to wear the stockings around the clock for the first day, then through the daytime for about a week, unless you are told otherwise. Keep walking. Leave hot baths, saunas and sun off the treated area for roughly 48 hours, and give hard workouts a few days off.
The weeks after that
Treated veins look darker, almost bruised, for two to four weeks — the sign that they are closing — then fade over about four to eight. Larger ones take longer and some need a second pass. So if you have a date in mind, book with it in mind; the change is gradual, never overnight.
Pompton Lakes patients ask
Can I go straight back to work? Yes. There is no downtime, and most people return to their day as soon as they leave.
Which veins is sclerotherapy best at? Surface vessels: spider veins and small varicose branches. A larger leaking vein is closed first with radiofrequency ablation or Varithena, and sclerotherapy then finishes what remains on the surface.
Is it safe? It has been in routine use for decades. Bruising, temporary darkening and, now and then, small brown marks that fade over months are the effects people usually see; serious complications are uncommon.

Tell us what’s going on
A consultation is a conversation and an examination, not a sales appointment. Dr. D’Alessio will tell you what she thinks is causing it, what can be done about it, and — when that is the honest answer — that you do not need a procedure.
