From the borough to our door
Three rivers — the Ramapo, the Pequannock and the Wanaque — run through Pompton Lakes, on the Passaic County side of the line. We are over the line in Morris County, at 624 Main Road, Suite 2B, Towaco, with parking on site. From the middle of the borough, the Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike and the Newark-Pompton Turnpike take you to Jacksonville Road, which runs on into Towaco: about nine miles, close to a quarter of an hour without traffic.
Swelling by evening is worth a scan
Ankles that are fine in the morning and puffy into sock marks by bedtime. Legs that feel heavy and tired after a day standing. That pattern usually means valves inside a leg vein have stopped closing, so blood slides back down and pressure builds in the lower leg. Left alone it tends to progress — brown staining around the ankle, thickened and itchy skin, and in some people a sore that will not heal. It is far easier to deal with early.
How we check
A vein assessment here begins with a duplex ultrasound performed while you stand, since gravity is part of the test. It lasts about thirty minutes, involves no needles or dye, and Dr. Donna D’Alessio explains the findings at the same visit — including when your veins turn out to be healthy and the swelling has another cause.
Treatment when the scan shows reflux
- Compression stockings go on straight away. They hold the leg steady while a plan is made but do not repair the valve, and many plans want a trial of them before approving treatment.
- Radiofrequency ablation seals a straight, failing vein from inside through a thin catheter, under local anaesthetic, in about an hour.
- Varithena microfoam reaches veins too twisted for a catheter to follow.
- Sclerotherapy finishes off the small surface branches.
Each is done in the office and you walk out afterwards. Read more about chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins.
The pain side of the practice
Dr. D’Alessio is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, so the same office treats back pain, knee pain and arthritis without surgery. Pain in the leg can start in the veins or in the spine, and she looks at both.
Pompton Lakes residents ask
Will insurance pay for vein treatment? It depends on your plan and on what the ultrasound finds. Symptomatic reflux is a medical problem; spider veins treated for appearance alone usually are not covered. Your benefits are verified before anything is booked — see insurance and fees.
My legs look normal. Could it still be my veins? Yes. Reflux can make legs ache, swell and cramp at night with no bulging vein in sight, and the scan is how it is found.
Are you open on Saturdays? The office is open Saturday mornings from 9 am to 1 pm as well as on weekdays. Ask when you book which visits can go on a Saturday.

Tell us what’s going on
A consultation is a conversation and an examination, not a sales appointment. Dr. D’Alessio will tell you what she thinks is causing it, what can be done about it, and — when that is the honest answer — that you do not need a procedure.
